Shambaditya Saha

B. Tech in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, 2006, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur; PhD in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, 2012, Yale University; postdoc at Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics.

The Saha group at IMBA combines in vitro reconstitution, biochemistry, biophysics, imaging and in vivo approaches to address the role of macromolecular phase separation in germ cell fate in C. elegans. As his most important contributions, he has discovered a molecular mechanism that cells use to organize the spatial distribution of liquid-like organelles and has identified a second role of ATP as a biological hydrotrope. Among other recognition, Shambaditya Saha has been awarded President of India Gold Medal and Young Alumni Achievement Award (IIT Kharagpur) for his work.
